Goldendale’s historic downtown district is central to discussions on sustainable development. The historic Main Street represents the communities most significant investment of commercial and public infrastructure and defines Goldendale’s physical center. By focusing on its unique and authentic downtown, Goldendale can build effective strategies for developing its identity, economy and community.

  This historic photograph illustrates a time when fixed awnings were predominate in Goldendale, and serves as a representation of the preferred precedent for future guidelines. These awnings maintained open transom windows and provided for a variety of signage.

Although they focus on illustrating downtown revitalization, the strategies engage holistic notions for Goldendale’s overall economic development and sustainability.
